How Strength Training Helped Me in Dhyaan (Meditation)
Back in 2013, I was invited to watch Mono acting play on the life of Shri Vivekananda with than President of India Late Shri Pranav Mukherji at Rastrapati Bhawan. It was my life, 's second live theatre, watching a movie is different but watching live Theater with a live Voice is completely different, Before this show I knew swami ji as a 1 of 4 names in my school house, names were Mahaveera House, Tagore house, Swami Vivekanand house and Gandi house. That Play left an ever-lasting mark on my character, I still remember how Ramkrishna used to call swami ji "Nauren" (in Bengali Accent), for months I used to discuss swami ji's life with my mother.
After 8 years of that play I started reading Bhagwat Geeta gifted by my girlfriend on our 6th Anniversary. In Bhagwat Geeta i came across Patanjali Yoga sutra in some chapters so I bought Patanjali Yog sutra book commentary by Swami Vivekananda. In that book, I found out yoga is not just about some poses for weight loss or just pranayama, it's a completely different science. In the book it was mentioned how yogi practice concentrating (Dhaarna) on different parts of the body gives different results, I started practising but failed.
Strength Training was something I loved doing, During Different Exercises I would Try to make my Mind Muscle connection to Shape up my ziggly wiggly body which became my first step towards meditation. Daily I would end my workout by sitting in the padmasana (crossed leg) position with closed eyes for at least 30 seconds. meditating after a workout worked better for me as I felt better concentration levels. I started focusing on all the parts of my body from toe to all three parts of my brain then holding my concentration between my eyebrows trying to take sensation from only that part of my body.
I have been meditating for the last 4 years (not daily) but my concentration has improved with time. I owe this to great Sages like Patanjali & Writers - commentators like Swami Vivekananda who wrote this book & inspired me to share my learnings and experiences in my upcoming 1st book.
